GUNMAN ESCAPES OFFICERS.

Police were searching for a gun-wielding 20-year-old man Friday Friday: see Sabbath; week.

The incident began when a woman called police to say that her husband had threatened her on the telephone and was on his way to the Yarmouth Avenue home, officers said.

. The officers then went toward the front of the home, where they saw the suspect carrying a gun, police said.

``He pulled the gun out - never pointing it at officers,'' said West Valley Division Officer William Dunn.

Some 40 officers converged on the home, but the man escaped, Alba said. No shots were fired and no one was injured in·jure

``I fear what might have happened if she had not called us right away,'' Alba said. ``She perhaps avoided a very tragic situation.''

While searching for the man, police told residents to stay inside as police officers in bullet-resistant vests ushered in dogs - to no avail.

Police said they were unsure of the man's exact name.
