 GULF STATES UTILITIES COMPANY ANNOUNCES ELECTION OF JACK L. SCHENCK
 BEAUMONT, Texas, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulf States Utilities Co. said today that Jack L. Schenck has been elected senior vice president and chief financial officer. The announcement was made by GSU Chief Executive Officer Joseph L. Donnelly.
 Schenck, 53, has been GSU's treasurer since joining the company in 1981. He previously spent 11 years with the Edison Electric Institute, ultimately becoming vice president for economic policy analysis. In his new job, Schenck will report to Donnelly, who formerly held the top financial post before becoming chief executive officer on Jan. 6.
 "Jack Schenck is ideally suited to be chief financial officer," Donnelly said. "He has played a leading role in helping the company get through some very difficult years and his diverse background and experience will be an important asset as we plan for the future."
 Schenck has a master of business administration from New York University and also has a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and a bachelor of arts in social science, both from Michigan State University.
 Schenck, along with his wife and son, live in Beaumont.
 Other personnel who were promoted today within the finance department include:
 Stephen K. Burton, 38, a 14-year veteran with Gulf States, was elected vice president and treasurer. He received a bachelor of business administration from Lamar University and has held numerous accounting positions at GSU, most recently manager of technical accounting and budgeting.
 Clyde W. McBride, 39, was promoted from assistant treasurer to vice president-strategic planning. He holds a master of business administration and a bachelor of science from Louisiana State University and has 15 years' experience at Gulf States in the field of finance.
 Geoffrey G. Galow, 34, formerly GSU director of shareholder services, was promoted to assistant treasurer. He has worked at Gulf States for 13 years in accounting and financial positions. Galow earned a bachelor of business administration from Lamar University.
 All of the above employees have offices in GSU's corporate headquarters in Beaumont.
