Live life after competitive golf as a gentleman and you might wind up with your own personal Hall of Fame. So it is for the late Ralph Guldahl Ralph J. Guldahl (November 22, 1911 – June 11, 1987) was an American professional golfer who was one of the top players in the sport for three years in the late 1930s. He was born in Dallas, Texas. , the former club pro at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana and winner of a Masters and back-to-back U.S. Open titles. He was the head pro there from 1961 until his death in 1987. Braemar became a shrine to Guldahl, one of the great players from golf's golden era. There are pictures and mementos of his exploits throughout the sprawling clubhouse and a bronze statue of him near the practice putting green. His green Masters blazer used to hang in a locker in the pro shop, and the west course at the 36-hole complex bears his name. And while Augusta, Ga., has Masters week, Braemar members stretch their celebration out a little longer. They will play the 14th annual Ralph Guldahl Memorial Pro-Am next week. Four members will be paired with a club pro from area courses. The men's club tournament was also moved to April and dedicated to Guldahl to commemorate his Masters victory. ``There is not a day that goes by here at Braemar that we don't talk about Ralph. He means everything to this club,'' said head professional Tom Szwedzinski. ``Even when he retired, he played golf with the members and that's what he did until he died. People always talk about what a gentleman he was.'' He was a pretty good golfer, too. Guldahl won 14 times on tour, including his three majors. He also finished second in the 1937 and 1938 Masters to Byron Nelson John Byron Nelson, Jr. (February 4 1912 – September 26 2006) was an American PGA Tour golfer between 1935 and 1946. He and two other well known golfers of the time, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead, were born within 6 months of each other in 1912. and Henry Picard, respectively. Golf history books recount that Guldahl had one of the best swings of his era, which included Sam Snead, Nelson, Gene Sarazen, Horton Smith and Harry Cooper. He was also undefeated in Ryder Cup play. His career was good enough to gain him admission to the World Golf, PGA (1) (Professional Graphics Adapter) An early IBM PC display standard for 3D processing with 640x480x256 resolution. And he has his own personal Hall of Fame in the hills above Tarzana. Sometimes, good guys do finish first. --Notes: One nerve-racking decision Tiger Woods did not have to make at Augusta last weekend was what to wear each round. In case you missed it, Daily News fashion writer Barbara DeWitt checked out what professional golfers were wearing during those pressure-packed rounds and picked up a surprising bit of news. Woods, one of the tour's classier dressers, has his wardrobe handpicked for each round by a Nike representative. . . .
