Shields got Miguel Tejada to ground into a fielder's choice, sending runners to first and third with one out. But the right-hander hunkered down after that and managed to strike out Jay Gibbons looking and Ramon Hernandez swinging to end the threat.

Santana pitched well enough to get the win, allowing two runs in seven innings but he received a no-decision.

"I don't care about getting the win as long as the team won,'' Santana said. "In the eighth inning, my control was a little off and I was missing my spots and that's what happened.''

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Orlando Cabrera stepped up against Orioles reliever Todd Williams and led off by reaching base safely on an infield single. With that hit, Cabrera has now reached base safely via hit, walk or hit by pitch in 27 straight games.

After Garret Anderson flew out, that brought up Guerrero who lined a ball down the right field line that appeared headed for a double. Gibbons Famous people named Gibbons include:

Cabrera easily scored on the play and Guerrero, who was running hard, flew around the bases and ran past the stop signal put up by Angels third base coach Dino Ebel and slid home safely to give the Angels a 4-2 lead.

Gibbons injured himself on the play and had to leave the game with a strained shoulder.

It was Guerrero's 13th home run of the sason and it wa the first inside the park home run by an Angels player since 1997 when Darin Erstad did it against the Toronto Blue Jays "Blue Jays" redirects here. For other uses, see Blue Jay (disambiguation)..

And it was also the first inside the park home run by an Angels player at Angel Stadium since Luis Polonia accomplished the feat against the Oakland A's on Aug. 9, 1991.

"When I was rounding third, I peaked over my shoulder and saw the relay throw was up in the air and I knew I had a chance to score,'' Guerrero said through an interpreter. "I saw Dino put up the stop sign but there was no way I could stop because I had a jo to do and I knew I had to help the team win.

"I would rather hit home runs over the fence any day. Running all the way like that isn't easy.''

But the Angels weren't done yet in the inning. Tim Salmon followed with a single and Tommy Murphy pinch ran for him.

Murphy went to second on a wild pitch and then to third on an infield singleby Kendry Morales. Murphy later scored the Angels final run on a RBI RBI
