 GUARDSMAN PRODUCTS, INC. ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT SUCCESSION
 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the board of


directors meeting on Nov. 12, 1992, Guardsman Products, Inc. (NYSE: GPI) announced that Charles E. Bennett, age 45, has been elected as chief executive officer of the company effective Jan. 1, 1993. Keith C. Vander Hyde, 64, who has served as CEO since 1970, is retiring effective the same date. Vander Hyde remains as chairman. Bennett had previously been president and chief operating officer.
 Vander Hyde in commenting on the announcement said, "This is the next step in the normal succession of moving officers into greater responsibility within the company. Chuck Bennett has been working with Guardsman in progressively responsible operating and financial positions for the past 12 years." Bennett joined Guardsman as corporate controller in 1980 and served as group vice president - West Coast Operations, vice president - Coatings Group, and vice president - Finance prior to being elected president in 1990. He also is a member of the company's board of directors and is a director of Comerica Bank - Grand Rapids/Holland Region and Goodwill Industries. He also serves on the board of governors of the Research and Technology Institute of West Michigan.
