GTECH TO PROVIDE FULLY AUTOMATED LOTTERY SYSTEM TO THE GEORGIA LOTTERY CORPORATION

 WEST GREENWICH, R.I., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that the company has been selected to supply, operate and maintain a fully automated lottery system for the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC). The five-year contract, which has extension options for up to five additional years, will be based on a full facilities management agreement in which GTECH will provide a wide scope of services and equipment for the Lottery's instant ticket and traditional on-line games. The GLC is the second lottery in the U.S. to start sales with a fully automated lottery system provided by a single supplier.
 Sales of instant tickets, expected to begin by July 1, 1993, will occur at approximately 7,000 fully automated retailer locations. Retailers will be equipped with G-TECH validation Terminals (5,000) or full-featured lottery terminals equipped with Dual Bar Code Readers (2,000). Both the GTECH Validation Terminal and Dual Bar Code Reader are compact, point-of-scale devices which automate lottery instant ticket validation and inventory control.
 An additional 2,000 terminals will be installed for the sale of on-line games, such as Lotto, which is expected to commence in the fall of 1993.
 GTECH will be operating two data centers in the Atlanta area and anticipates hiring approximately 100 employees. In addition, the company has made a strong commitment to subcontracting a large portion of the initial project and ongoing operations to minority and Georgia-owned businesses.
 In commenting on the announcement, GTECH Chairman and CEO Guy B. Snowden, said, "The Georgia contract reaffirms a growing industry tend in which lottery organizations begin operations with a fully automated system to accelerate the implementation time and enhance revenues while ensuring maximum security.
