GTECH TO NEGOTIATE VIDEO LOTTERY CONTRACT FOR RHODE ISLAND LOTTERY
 WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH Holdings Corporation (NYSE: GTK) announced today that its operating subsidiary, GTECH Corporation, has been invited to negotiate a contract with the Rhode Island Lottery to supply and operate a central system for video lottery games. The contract will be a facilities management arrangement, in which GTECH will supply the hardware and software for the central system, as well as operate it for the Lottery. GTECH was invited to negotiate the contract following a competitive procurement.
 In addition to supplying the central computer system, GTECH was also chosen to provide 300 of the initial allocation of 1,200 video lottery terminals.
 The proposed system will have the security and integrity of the Lottery's existing on-line gaming system. It will feature central computer control of terminals, centralized system management and comprehensive audit and control features.
 The Lottery plans to begin operation of the video lottery games by Sept. 28, 1992, with an initial installation of 1,200 terminals, located in two Rhode Island pari-mutuel locations.
 GTECH Corporation designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on six continents. In addition, GTECH Corporation provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently supplies and/or operates lottery systems for 25 U.S. customers and 32 jurisdictions outside of the United States.
 GTECH has been chosen to supply the video lottery central system in Alberta, Canada and supplies video lottery terminals to the Oregon State Lottery.
 GTECH Corporation employs approximately 1,000 people in Rhode Island and more than 3,000 worldwide.
