GTECH ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACTS, CONTRACT EXTENSIONS AND ORDERS FOR ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT

WEST GREENWICH, R.I., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) has signed a contract, effective today, to supply on-line equipment and services to the New York State Lottery. Under the contract, which is subject to approvals by the New York State Comptroller's Office and the New York Attorney General's Office, GTECH will provide its retailer terminals to all New York Lottery licensed agents and will provide and operate data centers in Schenectady and Saugerties, N.Y. The contract also includes an option for the Lottery to implement a keno-type lottery game.

Keno
GTECH also announced the successful implementation of a keno-type game, "Loto Express," by Loto Catalunya, in the Spanish province of Catalunya. GTECH has been supplying on-line services and equipment to Loto Catalunya since 1987.
Approximately 1,500 on-line retail locations offer the "Loto Express" game, which is averaging approximately U.S. $900,000 in weekly sales. "Loto Express" represents GTECH's first implementation of a keno-type game in Europe.
Keno is based on a game that originated in China more than 3,000 years ago. In the modern, on-line version, players chose up to 10 numbers from a field of 80, and attempt to match 20 numbers which are randomly selected by a central computer. GTECH currently supplies and operates versions of its Club Keno(tm) game to lotteries in South Australia, California, Kansas, Maryland, Oregon, Rhode Island and West Virginia.

Contract Extension
GTECH also announced today that the State of Ohio has exercised an option to extend its contract with the company to operate its on-line lottery system from February 1993 to February 1994. GTECH has been providing on-line lottery services and equipment, including approximately 5,200 terminals, to the Ohio Lottery since 1985.
GTECH Corporation designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on five continents. In addition, GTECH Corporation provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently supplies and/or operates lottery systems for 25 U.S. customers and 33 jurisdictions outside of the United States.
