GTE SPACENET BUILDS SATELLITE-BASED TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK IN CHINA;
 CONTRACT IS WORTH NEARLY $10 MILLION.
 MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE Spacenet has built a satellite-based, interactive voice, data and facsimile network for the China National Petroleum and Chemical Company (CNPCC) under a contract valued at nearly $10 million. The network is currently operational, and is projected to expand to 2,000 Chinese government sites over the next five years.
 A shared hub earth station in Beijing is the central hub for the very small aperture terminal (VSAT) network.
 The CNPCC network is designed to provide integrated data, voice and facsimile communications using VSAT terminals. The transmission of multiple communication services over a single satellite channel results in a lower bandwidth requirement, a feature that is especially valuable to countries where satellite bandwidth is costly or in very limited supply.
 GTE Spacenet Corp. is a world leader in satellite communications with over two decades of experience in the provision of telecommunications services and systems to businesses, news organizations, educational institutions and government agencies across the United States and around the globe.
