These communications networks are provided by companies such as AT&T, GTE, IBM, MCI, Netcom, Sprint, UUNET and consist of high-speed links in the T1, T3, OC1 and OC3 ranges. routers with OC-192c/STM-64 interfaces on part of its next-generation OC-192c/STM-64 network.
To meet GTEI's goal of expanding capacity while creating an open, multiservice core, the M160 routers will interoperate with advanced Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing See WDM. The M160 is the first router to support OC-192c/STM-64 circuits with wire-rate packet forwarding, handling an aggregate bandwidth of 160 Gigabits per second (Gbps) with packet forwarding rates of 160 million packets per second (Mpps). Since each OC-192c/STM-64 interface connects to a clear channel 10 Gbps circuit, carriers like GTEI can simplify capacity planning and administration of their rapidly growing networks.
