GTE INTRODUCES CALL COMPLETION OPTION FOR CALLS TO DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE

TAMPA, Fla., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- GTE Florida has introduced a service to help customers quickly complete calls when they need a telephone number. Directory Connect Plus offers customers the option of automatically completing their calls when they use Directory Assistance. Directory Connect Plus costs 35 cents each time the option is used.
To use the service, telephone customers call Directory Assistance and ask for the telephone number as they always have. After the number is given, a recorded message offers Directory Connect Plus service and instructions, if the service is available for that call. The call can be automatically completed by touching "1" after the prompt. A Touch Calling telephone must be used to place calls using this service.
Due to federal regulatory restrictions this service is available only for calls to local and nearby communities, including long-distance calls within GTE's six-county operating area.
Directory Connect Plus is a great benefit when callers find themselves without pen or paper, or when reaching the other person quickly is critical.
GTE Florida, Inc., part of GTE Telephone Operations-South Area, provides local voice and data telecommunications services to customers through approximately 1.8 million access lines in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties. South Area is one of four geographic operating units within GTE Telephone Operations. South Area serves approximately 3.7 million customers lines in nine southeastern states. GTE Telephone Operations, the largest U.S.-based local telephone company, serves approximately 16 million domestic customer lines in 40 states and 2.3 million international lines in three countries.
