the strategy games sector, and we are pleased to debut with such a clever, richly designed and challenging title," said Chris Garske, senior vice president of Publishing at GT Interactive Software.

"Vikings was conceived in the tradition of the best known strategy game classics," said Randall Masteller Randall Don Masteller is a game programmer who currently works at Oasys Mobile. Masteller has previously worked at Mastertronic and Screenplay. He is credited with the following games:
  • Scrabble (2003), Infogrames Interactive, Inc.
, president of Random Games. "Vikings takes a major step forward in its graphics and intricate game play, while remaining true to the challenging and entertaining nature of the genre."

Narrated by actor Michael Dorn of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," GT Interactive's Vikings drops players into the 9th century where they must venture into and conquer the Scandinavian countries as a rack-and-ruin Viking, whose reputation as a warrior is integral to success. Armed with hordes of fighters, barbaric weapons, and a 'never-say-die' attitude, players must triumph over 160 different provinces and fearsome enemies in the Northern World during their lifetime.

A historically accurate strategy adventure, in Vikings - whether invading new territories and villages by land or sea - players must carefully plan their course of action while tracking resources and enemies. Entering into trade agreements with nearly 300 cities; flirting with the barmaid or barlad to unveil vital information; and quests for ancient relics and artifacts artifacts

are all part of the adventure.

Where negotiations and agreements end, the battles begin. With Viking gear strapped on and dagger firmly in place, players may plunder and pillage across Nordic lands; wreak havoc on unsuspecting villages; battle foes hand-to-hand and in group combat; eliminate bandits; and burn buildings while carrying off the spoils.

Vikings offers three levels of play - novice, warriors or saga legend. Beginning as a young fighter, the game spans a lifetime and every choice made, including marriage, has a bearing on the outcome. Each time the game is played, the territories' strengths change - what was once an easy target could evolve into a powerhouse. The ultimate goal is to become king of one of the Scandinavian countries--Norway, Denmark or Sweden--or even ruler of all of the territories. GT Interactive's Vikings is available next month for IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company.
