GSI Acquires Video Diagnostic Product Line From Truevision; Video monitoring and diagnostic test software for Windows and Windows 95 includes waveform monitor, vectorscope and datascope.

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1996--GSI today announced that it has acquired from Truevision the VIDI/O VIDI/O Video Input Output  Workbench video signal diagnostic product line aimed at the video production, television broadcast, cable and multimedia software development markets. The VIDI/O Workbench (Analyst/Pattern Generator) provides a complete video monitoring solution that ensures the technical quality of video productions, broadcast signals or software targeted at the emerging cable internet Internet access via the cable companies. There are two kinds of service. One uses a cable modem to connect to a computer, and the other uses an enhanced cable box that provides Internet access directly at the TV.  market. VIDI/O allows engineers, technicians, producers and beginners to monitor and measure their NTSC (National TV Standards Committee) The committee that developed the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries. "The VIDI/O Workbench gives the user far more control over their final output than they can achieve with traditional, manual technology costing five to ten times as much," said company president Don Gilbreath.

The Analyst provides standard waveform and vectorscope monitoring with automatic video measurements (datascope) displayed on your PC. The Pattern Generator displays video test signals and features over twenty common video test patterns. The Pattern Generator can add color bars to a finished product allowing users to calibrate To adjust or bring into balance. Scanners, CRTs and similar peripherals may require periodic adjustment. Unlike digital devices, the electronic components within these analog devices may change from their original specification. See color calibration and tweak.  correct on-screen colors. It can also be used as a standard reference when calibrating a desktop video graphics card.

Steven Dewey, Plant Manager of cable operator Booth Communications said, "VIDI/O Video Diagnostic / Analyzer products are a tremendous leap in technology. Until now almost all waveform monitors and vector scopes have been stationary, rack-mounted units in the production rooms and headends. But with GSI GSI - Gensym Standard Interface  VIDI/O, I can take the waveform/vector right to the modulator Modulator

and perform the testing in less time, plus record the results to the hard drive. The Pattern Generator is surprising. It out-performed our rack-mounted unit. I have also found great application for this product in digital video encoding for our ad insertion department by ensuring the quality of the video being encoded."

"There is no other video diagnostic tool on the market that gives anywhere near as much information as the VIDI/O Workbench," said Gilbreath. "Hundreds of variables can be monitored automatically, including critical legal broadcast limits and saturation alarms. It is perfect for inexperienced operators or automated control installations."

Before Clarke entered law school, his undergraduate studies focused on history.  of Datavision said, "The product is very useful as a component in any system used to digitize video. Doing professional video without either a scope or the VIDI/O Workbench means you are flying blind. I have already used it to locate a faulty terminator which might have gone otherwise undetected."

The GSI software includes extensive Hypertext help and reference aids that support test and measurement tasks. The reference aids include: a complete video glossary of over 120 terms and formats; a depiction of standard key video parameters, such as burst, breezeway breeze·way
