Two high-end retailers - Ben Bridge Jewelers, touted as the nation's largest Rolex watch dealer, and J. Jill, a women's apparel shop - have opened in recent weeks. The Town Center's general manager said the additions will help serve a higher-income market than existed when the mall opened in 1991. Many of the new shops come in time for what experts say will be a good holiday season for retailers after two flat years. They say a number of factors indicate residents have money to spend, that local homes are selling for record amounts and at a record pace and that unemployment is low. Retailers are responding to the trend by increasing and broadening their inventories. ``I think that consumer spending Consumer demand or consumption is also known as personal consumption expenditure. It is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at the macroeconomic level. is gaining steam and retailers are looking forward to a much improved season over last year,'' Gill said. ``One reason for that growth is the growth in (disposable household) income.'' Gill said retailers expect the tepid apparel and home-furnishings markets to heat up during the holidays. ``That's a trend you see when people are feeling better about things, about themselves,'' he said. ``We're not so worried this year about terrorism or wondering if we'll go to war.'' Helping the Town Center, he said, is the new Valencia Crossroads shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into to the south and the year-old Promenade to the west. ``I think they create synergy for us and add more reasons to come to the Town Center,'' he said. ``It's not competition, it's stores that complement one another.'' Another key section of the market that stands out is the money teens are spending. ``I'm continually amazed at the amount of disposal income teens have,'' Gill said.
