GROWTH AHEAD AT VINEYARD SUPERVISORS PERMIT WINERY'S EXPANSION.

Byline: Susan Abram Staff Writer

The vines are budding budding, type of grafting in which a plant bud is inserted under the bark of the stock (usually not more than a year old). It is best done when the bark will peel easily and the buds are mature, as in spring, late summer, or early autumn.  across the 90 acres of the Agua Dulce Agua Dulce is Spanish for "sweet water". The approval marks a turning point for the owners of the vineyard and residents of nearby Sierra Colony, a development of 60 homes.

Two years ago, some residents complained that winery owners, who also had developed their Sierra Colony tract homes, had failed to address zoning violations. Residents also said the winery was using water intended for the housing development for the vineyard.

The vineyard continued to operate at minimum capacity until the County Regional Planning regional planning: see city planning.  Commission determined the winery had met all conditions.

The commission approved the permit earlier this year, but about 20 residents appealed.

``The residents were really concerned about the water issue,'' said Gloria Gressman, a Sierra Colony resident and member of the Sierra Pelona Water Co. ``We wanted to make sure they weren't using our water.''

The result was a permit that both sides seemed content with.

``I think this is a success story for the county and the supervisors, in terms of resolutions,'' said Antonovich's planning deputy Paul Novak. ``In terms of economic development, the vineyard provides jobs, but in essence, it also provides open space.''

As part of the resolution, vineyard owners agreed to help Sierra Colony residents fund a new well for $300,000.

``The issue has come to a rest,'' Gressman said. ``We're looking to a new future. They've been very cooperative.''
