GREENCROFT SCHOOL; SPONSORED BY PUBLIC HEALTH NORTH EAST.

THE SNAG snag - bug  group at Greencroft School - School Nutrition Action Group - works hard to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating.

The group works with the school kitchen staff and has a garden in the school grounds to grow fruit and vegetables for the dining room. During British Food Fortnight the group investigated the issue of food miles "Food miles" is a term which refers to the distance food travels from the time of its production until it reaches the consumer or end-user. It is one dimension used in assessing the environmental impact of food.  and sampled tradition local dishes that are not well known by young people.

The school also makes its own compost and is in the process of building a greenhouse from plastic bottles.
