GREATER TREASURE FROM THE BEATLES VAULT.

Byline: Fred Shuster Daily News Music Writer

At last comes the Beatles anthology for anyone who found the Fab Four's early years cute, but ultimately uninteresting (jargon) uninteresting - 1. Said of a problem that, although nontrivial, can be solved simply by throwing sufficient resources at it.

2. Also said of problems for which a solution would neither advance the state of the art nor be fun to design and code.
.

"The Beatles Anthology Volume 2," on sale March 19, is a winner throughout. The second of three retrospective double-CD sets of tape vault treasures, it features 45 unreleased tracks dating from the Beatles' midperiod, 1965 to 1968.

leftover, "Real Love," the set contains the first recorded takes of "Yesterday" and "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)," a gorgeous strings-only version of "Eleanor Rigby," fascinating demos of "Strawberry Fields Forever" that illustrate the evolution of one of the group's most resonant creations, plus previously unreleased versions of "A Day in the Life," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "I Am the Walrus walrus, marine mammal, Odobenus rosmarus, found in Arctic seas. An equally accurate alternate title for the package could be "The George Martin Sir George Henry Martin CBE (born 3 January 1926 in Highbury, London, England) is sometimes referred to as "the Fifth Beatle"—a title that he owes to his work as producer of almost all of The Beatles' records.  Story."

It's plain when listening to the growth of "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Penny Lane" and "A Day in the Life" that Martin is pointing the Beatles down fresh avenues.

By the time production of "Strawberry Fields," for example, left Lennon's home music room and moved to Abbey Road studios Abbey Road Studios, created in November of 1931 by EMI in London, England is best known as the recording studio used by musicians such as The Beatles, Cliff Richard, Al Stewart, Pink Floyd, Oasis, The Shadows and Elliott Smith.  in November 1966, the band was entering a period of almost unbridled creativity. Not only were "Strawberry Fields" and "Penny Lane" cut, but the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts lonely hearts

Another highlight of the new anthology is the composite version of "A Day in the Life," assembled for this package from the best of three days' worth of unreleased outtakes.

Along with such winners as McCartney's piano-vocal demo of "The Fool on the Hill" and early incarnations of "I'm Only Sleeping," "Across the Universe," "Lady Madonna" and "Hello, Goodbye," part two of the anthology series An anthology series is a radio or television series that has a different story and a different set of characters in every episode. It's been reported that the release of this set - which has a suggested list price of $31.98 for CD and $19.98 for cassette - was delayed from last month after the surviving Beatles decided to revise the track order.

The third and final volume of the anthology was being put together by Martin a few weeks ago in London with a tentative release date of sometime next spring.

Harrison joked in a recent issue of Billboard magazine that after volume three comes out, "anything else should be called 'Scraping the Barrel.' "
