Texas is the first state in the country to offer its public safety agencies the opportunity to select a neutral third party such as SCC for its 9-1-1 data management.

The GHC Network, which receives more than 7,000 calls daily from citizens in Harris and Fort Bend Fort Bend was a blockhouse built in a large bend of the Brazos River in what is now Fort Bend County, Texas to provide protection against Indian raids. It was erected in November 1822 by several members of Stephen F. , changes in the telecommunications industry have created a complex network of services and providers. The GHC Network made the decision to utilize SCC's advanced technology and service models in response to this complex environment.

"The magnitude of database changes and the growing number of service providers create a complex scenario for the public safety agencies," said Stuart Miller, vice president and general manager of SCC's Direct Service business unit. "SCC is pleased to assist the 9-1-1 agencies with the time- consuming yet critical job of updating, verifying and forwarding changes to the database. This also represents a huge step for SCC in the process of transitioning over an additional six million database records for more than 225 counties in Texas."

"Telecommunications technology is changing rapidly, and competition is

increasing," added Miller. "In the midst Adv. 1. in the midst - the middle or central part or point; "in the midst of the forest"; "could he walk out in the midst of his piece?"

After successful trials in Harris County, the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC CSEC Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

) authorized SCC to move forward with providing E9-1-1 database management services for the public safety agencies of the 24 Councils of Government. Through the CSEC selection, SCC will serve as the single point of contact to more than 200 local telephone service providers and 300 public safety agencies in the state.

"The Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network is looking forward to the transition to management of the 9-1-1 database by one provider," said Laverne Hogan, GHC's Network executive director. "SCC will give us a single point of contact in our dealings with the multiple telephone companies in our area, and help ensure that there is no loss of integrity to the data. We also expect that the transition will assist us in controlling costs associated with maintaining the 9-1-1 database."

SCC supports all aspects of 9-1-1 data transmission, correction and delivery. Its diverse and highly redundant 9-1-1 network system provides automatic location identification and selective routing in addition to supporting 9-1-1 for wireless callers.

"In a large metropolitan area, there are numerous telephone companies that 9-1-1 agencies have to work with, which makes it more challenging than ever to maintain an accurate database and ensure calls are routed to the correct answering point," said John Melcher, the Network's deputy director. "We think SCC will help us meet that challenge, while also assisting us in deploying service to wireless customers in our area."
