GREAT SCOTT LEADS WAY RB SPARKS BIG COMEBACK AS MOORPARK WINS MOORPARK 38, THOUSAND OAKS 24.

, being stuffed for no gain by Thousand Oaks defenders.

And that was before the heavily favored Musketeers fell behind by 17 points early in the second quarter.

``Are you kidding me, you guys? This is disgusting,'' Halmandaris, the Stanford-bound lineman, screamed. ``Wake up right now and play like the defending Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. The Musketeers responded, scoring 31 unanswered points over the next three quarters behind the dominant play of Scott and the offensive line to win 38-24 at Thousand Oaks.

``Yeah, I guess you could say that first half was a big scare. That's an understatement,'' said Scott, a junior who finished with 277 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries. ``We felt like we were the better team coming in, but Thousand Oaks played like they thought they were going to win. We made way too many mistakes in the first half, and coach (Tim) Lins let us know about every single one of them at halftime.''

Moorpark (4-1 overall, 2-0 Marmonte) fell behind 17-0 with 11:12 remaining in the second quarter when Lancers lanc·er

quarterback Ryan Cloney ran through the heart of its defense for a 6-yard touchdown.

Moorpark's only first-half score came when quarterback Adam Barry connected with Nick Karam for a 41-yard pass to pull within 10 points of Thousand Oaks (3-2, 1-1) at halftime.

Scott then rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns in the second half, including a 65-yard score on Moorpark's first play from scrimmage A play from scrimmage is the activity of the games of Canadian football and American football during which one team tries to advance the ball or to score, and the other team tries to stop them or take the ball away.  in the third quarter.

``Did I really have 33 carries tonight? Man, get me some lemonade,'' Scott said with a laugh.

``I don't really know how to explain my success tonight,'' added Scott, who leads the area this season with 1,166 yards rushing. ``I'm blessed with a lot of natural talent and a great offensive line.''

Scott's second-half performance included a 40-yard touchdown with 11 minutes remaining in which he ran over six Thousand Oaks defenders. The score gave the Musketeers, ranked No. 4 in the area by the Daily News, its first lead of the game, 24-17.

Thousand Oaks was led Cloney, who finished 10 of 24 for 161 yards with three touchdowns (one passing, two rushing) despite having to miss two first-half drives due to a sprained knee.

Barry finished just 4 of 10 with 121 yards and an interception for Moorpark, which hosts league-rival Agoura (5-0, 2-0) next week in a game with major league title implications.
