GREAT CENTRAL ANNOUNCES TOTAL OF 2,100,000 OUNCES GOLD AT BRONZEWING; OPEN PIT MINE PLANNED

MELBOURNE, Australia, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Great Central Mines (ADRs -- NASDAQ: GTCMY) today issued the following statement:
Incorporation of recent core and reverse circulation (RC) drilling results has generated a totaled inferred mineral resource estimate and pre-resource mineralization estimate at Bronzewing of 16.1 million tons at 0.13 oz/t gold for 2,100,000 contained ounces.
The inferred mineral resource estimate of the above total is: 12.3 million tons 0.11 oz gold for 1,300,000 contained ounces. The pre-resource mineralization estimate is: 3.8 million tons at 0.22 oz/t gold for 800,000 contained ounces.
The pre-resource mineralization estimate classification is specifically for the central zone below a depth of 459 feet where more drilling is required to establish an indicated mineral resource. The totaled inferred resource estimate and pre-resource mineralization encompasses the previously announced global measured indicated and inferred mineral resource estimate of McDonald Speijers.
 Open Pit Mine
Engineering and cost studies to date suggest that the mineralization between the surface and a vertical depth of 790 feet is likely to be suitable for open pit mining.
 Drilling Program Continues
Core drilling is continuing with five rigs, three of which are on double shift with the emphasis on the Central Zone due for completion by the end of October 1993. A deep drilling program of eight holes to test the extent of the gold mineralization in the Central and Discovery Zone to a vertical depth of 2,600 feet is scheduled to begin in November 1993.
Feasibility Study to be Completed by Mid-December 1993
In view of the outstanding results the completion of the feasibility study has been deferred until mid-December so that additional drilling can be included in the mineral resource estimate. McDonald Speijers mineral resource consultants are being retained to provide an independent mineral resource estimate and in conjunction with Signet Engineering Pty. Ltd. the ore reserve estimate for the feasibility study.
 Jundee
Drilling at Jundee is continuing with significant intersections including 53 feet at 0.29 oz/ton from the surface and 66 feet at 0.15 oz/ton from a depth of 40 meters. There are two drilling rigs operating at Jundee to complete a 130x65-foot drill pattern in the area where mineralization has been discovered. Rotary air blast drilling is to be followed with RC drilling.
 Diamonds
Bulk Sampling of ME22 Diamond Bearing Kimberlite,
 Greater Nabberu Region
So far only 10 percent of the material mined from ME22 has been processed and analyzed. Kimberlite garnets and chromites have been recovered from the bulk samples at ME22. Processing of the ME22 samples will continue until completed and will take until the end of October 1993.
Southern Geoscience Consultants John Asley and Martin Gunn have selected a number of magnetic anomalies of up to 100 acres in the general vicinity of the kimberlites previously confirmed. Surface loam sampling is in progress with drilling scheduled for November 1993. Processing of bulk samples from the Marymia-Two Pools will resume when processing of ME22 samples have been completed.

 Aborigine Community Consent to Sampling:
Initial sampling on the eastern half of the Walgidee Hills lamproite has been completed and samples are being processed initially for microdiamond recovery. Drilling on the eastern half of the pipe to test for the occurrence of Diamondiferous tuffs and breccias beneath the alluvial-covered central part of the pipe is to begin shortly. The Noonkanbah (Aborigine) community has given the company permission to sample the western half of the pipe with the exception of an area to be defined in the North West Quadrant.
