GREAT BRITAIN'S ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY INSTALLS CRAY RESEARCH SUPERCOMPUTER

EAGAN, Minn., July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Cray Research (NYSE: CYR) announced today that AEA Technology (United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority) has installed a CRAY Y-MP supercomputer at the organization's
Harwell Laboratory, Great Britain. The used system, first offered in

1989, has a list price in the United States beginning at $2 million and was installed in first quarter 1993.
AEA Technology provides consultancy services to Great Britain's engineering and energy sectors, including the petroleum, nuclear and chemical industries.
The CRAY Y-MP system will replace a CRAY-2 supercomputer, allowing AEA Technology to continue to advance its high-performance computing capabilities for computational fluid dynamics, stress analysis, reservoir simulation, electromagnetic design and environmental studies.
"The improved price/performance of the CRAY Y-MP allows AEA Technology and its customers to gain competitive advantage through the use of supercomputing facilities," said Dr. Brian Day, Cray Research services manager at AEA Technology. "That's good news for us, and good news for the organizations we work with."
"We're pleased to continue working with AEA Technology," said John F. Carlson, chairman and chief executive officer for Cray Research. "The trust they've shown in Cray Research by continuing to work with us reaffirms that we are the leading supplier of high-performance computing for advanced engineering and scientific research."
