GRAY COMMUNICATIONS CLOSE ON PURCHASE OF ROCKDALE CITIZEN

 ALBANY, Ga., May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Gray Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM) of Albany, Georgia, closed today on the previously announced purchase of The Rockdale Citizen from Grimes Publications, Inc. of Athens, Georgia.
 The Rockdale Citizen is a 10,600 circulation daily newspaper published each


Monday through Friday afternoon in Conyers, Georgia. The paper serves the growing Rockdale County market area. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
 Gray Communications president and CEO, John T. Williams, named Joseph D. Cunningham as publisher of the newspaper. For the past year and a half, Cunningham has served as advertising director for The Albany Herald (Albany, GA), which is also owned by Gray Communications. Prior to his employment with Gray, he worked at The Atlanta Journal- Constitution. "Joe Cunningham will be an excellent leader for The Rockdale Citizen," Williams said.

 Gray Communications Systems, Inc., is a holding company located in Albany, Georgia, which operates three VHF, NBC-affiliated television stations -- WALB-TV located in Albany, Georgia, WJHG-TV in Panama City, Florida, and KTVE in Monroe, Louisiana, and two daily newspapers, The Albany Herald, in Albany, Georgia, and The Rockdale Citizen, Conyers, Georgia.
