GRANTS YIELD $1 MILLION FOR COLLEGE PROJECTS.

Moorpark College Moorpark College is a California-state funded community college located on a 134 acre (542,000 m²) property reclining on a hill in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California.  has received five grants totaling more than $1 million from the Chancellor's Office of the California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Community Colleges and matching funds Noun 1. matching funds - funds that will be supplied in an amount matching the funds available from other sources

Money received will be used to upgrade equipment in the biotechnology and multimedia department and assist in better integrating academic and occupational learning within the local community.

``We're very excited about this,'' said Roseann Mikos, the college's grant writer. ``Basically, we're expanding and improving. We're doing more than what you can do with the regular program.''

Two one-year grants provided $88,424 for biotechnology and $100,000 in multimedia programs. Each of the grants required matching funds, which were provided by college partners including Amgen and Maxon Computer of Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Three three-year grants include Learning Community Institutes: Model for Integration for $326,560; California Learning Community College Network for $326,560; and Community Service Learning for $163,279.

The grants are focused on the college's model learning community institutes in health sciences, media arts, liberal arts/teacher training and business, which work to better integrate academic and occupational education by developing career guides, adding more internship internship /in·tern·ship/ (in´tern-ship) the position or term of service of an intern in a hospital.
