GRANTS PASS SIZZLER TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY

GRANTS PASS, Ore., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Murray Gast, spokesman for The Sizzler, 1871 N. 7th St., Grants Pass, this afternoon announced that the restaurant will be closed until 11 a.m. Monday as a precautionary measure.
Josephine County public health department officials today announced that five people have been treated for infection by e. coli bacteria after eating at the restaurant March 13 and 14. Four of the five have been released from the hospital and the fifth is improving.
Health department officials did not locate the source of the bacteria but have inspected the restaurant and assure the public it is safe. However, Gast has decided to close the restaurant to replace all fresh food products, clean work and storage areas and review procedures with employees.
"We're concerned about our customers and we'll do whatever it takes to be 100 percent sure the food we serve is safe," Gast promised. "We're sorry some people have become ill and want to be certain there are no further problems. I want to express my personal concern and that of our entire staff, along with my assurance that we're taking extraordinary measures to ensure safety."
