Doris Duke (November 22, 1912 – October 28, 1993) was an American heiress and philanthropist.
 Foundation and the Surdna Foundation.

The grant, which includes $375,000 in artistic program support from the Surdna Foundation, and $1.25 million in endowment support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation that must be matched by CalArts, will help the school provide financial aid to its gifted students regardless of financial status.

The money will also be used to support the performing arts programs through increased student scholarships, faculty projects and enhancement of the Community Arts Partnership The Community Arts Partnership (usually known as CAP) was established in 1990,and is the first program of its kind in the U.S. The program links the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) to community art centers and public schools throughout Los Angeles County as part of an , a teen art program that introduces art to children in organizations such as the Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club.

By strengthening CalArts endowment, the grants should aid the school's effort to support these programs on an ongoing basis at the end of the three-year grant period.

``We are proud to be one of the first colleges to be included in the Talented Students in the Arts Initiative,'' said CalArts President Steven Lavine. ``The program and endowment support of the Duke and Surdna foundations could not be more perfectly focused to address our needs.''

New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
, N.Y.

Through the Talented Students in the Arts Initiative, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Surdna Foundation will jointly invest more than $16 million over five years to support the performing arts programs and endowments of leading national arts training institutions and public performing high schools.
