GRAND CASINOS, INC. RECEIVES APPROVAL FOR GAMING LICENSE
 FOR GULFPORT SITE
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Casinos, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: GRND), which manages two Las Vegas-style casinos on behalf of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians, today announced its subsidiary, Grand Casino Gulfport, has been approved for a gaming license by the Mississippi Gaming Commission at yesterday's special session. In addition, the key members of Grand Casinos, Inc.'s management team, who were required to be licensed, also received approval.
The Gaming Commission has scheduled a special session on Oct. 28, 1992, to review the company's license application for a second dockside casino in Biloxi, Miss. Based on the receipt of a license for the Gulfport site, the company does not anticipate difficulty receiving the Biloxi license.
Lyle Berman, chief executive officer of Grand Casinos, Inc., applauded the Gaming Commission for its thorough and complete investigation. "This action by the commission is the beginning of a new chapter in Mississippi gaming history," Berman stated. "This opens the door to our ability to invest over $50 million in the Mississippi economy and the creation of thousands of jobs. Every member of the Grand Casinos family is thrilled to be a part of the economic resurgence of the Gulf Coast economy."
Berman said the Gulfport casino is expected to open in mid-May and will encompass 204,000 square feet, 65,000 square feet of which will be casino gaming space, housing approximately 1,500 slots, 90 table games and a 20-table poker parlor. The facility will also include four restaurants, a child day care center, a video arcade and contiguous parking for almost 1,700 cars.
"Grand Casinos will enhance the Gulf Coast as a viable vacation alternative to the traditional gaming markets of Las Vegas and Atlantic City," continued Berman. "We believe the people of Mississippi will be proud to showcase the facility as one of the finest in the country."
Grand Casinos, Inc., develops and manages casino gaming facilities for Indian Tribes on Indian land, and is currently developing its own gaming facilities which are not located on Indian land. The company's common stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol GRND.
