Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

CARSON - Chris Kingsbury achieved redemption on the ultimate stage Friday night.

And J.J. DiLuigi, known more for his Foothill League record 43 touchdowns, made the biggest defensive stop of the season in the most crucial of situations.

Thanks to the two juniors, the Canyon High of Canyon Country football team returned to prominence 20 years after one of the most successful runs in Southern Section history.

After committing a first-half fumble that led to a Hart of Newhall touchdown, Kingsbury scored on a 4-yard touchdown reception and intercepted a Tyler Lyon pass with less than three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. Yudin, who caught 13 passes for 209 yards, jumped to catch Lyon's pass on fourth down and landed just short of the 1-yard line, as DiLuigi's tackle helped secure the Cowboys' first championship since 1985.

``I knew this one was going to be real close. The last time was 16-14 and there was a lot higher stakes (Friday),'' said Canyon linebacker Tyler Hawkins, who pinned Hart on its own 1-yard line with 2:16 remaining. ``They're just as undersized undersized

as we are and they played a great game. They were an inch away from sending this to overtime. They should get a championship ring just like we do.''

Despite being undersized and undermanned at many positions, Hart pulled off one of the most impressive runs in Mike Herrington's 17-year tenure, upsetting Mission Viejo Mission Vi·e·jo

After forcing Canyon to go three plays and out on the opening drive of the second half, Hart marched 74 yards in nine plays, with Lyon completing all five of his passes for 56 yards, the final one a strike across the middle to Yudin for an 11-yard touchdown.

Tyler Hawkins, who recovered a fumble at the 5-yard line with just over a minute remaining in the team's first meeting Nov. 10 to preserve a 16-14 Canyon victory, came off the edge to block the extra-point attempt by Calvin LaBorde.
