GRAMMY-WINNING JAZZ MUSICIAN TO PERFORM AT CALARTS.

Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA - Jazz musician Charlie Haden will perform with his Liberation Music Orchestra in a free concert at California Institute of the Arts at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Grammy award-winning bassist, composer and bandleader has recorded more than 300 albums with such artists as John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny.

Haden founded the CalArts jazz program in 1982 and has been called a ``poet of the bass.''

The concert will feature music from all three of the Liberation Music Orchestra's recordings: ``Liberation Music Orchestra,'' recorded in 1968; ``The Ballad of the Fallen,'' recorded in 1982; and the Grammy-winning ``Dream Keeper,'' recorded in 1991.

Haden also won a Grammy in 1998 for ``Beyond the Missouri Sky'' recorded with guitarist Pat Metheny.

His groups, Quartet West and the Liberation Music Orchestra, have also received numerous Grammy nominations and won several Acoustic Jazz Band of the Year awards from Down Beat magazine.

For further information about the concert, call (661) 253-7832.
