She has been nominated for four Academy Awards. Biography Early life Moore was born Julie Anne Smith in Fort Bragg, near Fayetteville, North Carolina,[] , it's fearless. Ever since the four-times Oscar-nominated actress came to our attention in Robert Altman's 1993 film Short Cuts - in which she proved she really is a redhead thanks to a full-frontal nude scene - she's made a career out of being brave. Since then, she's played a porn star in Boogie Nights, a pill-popping trophy wife in Magnolia, a suicidal depressive in The Hours and even took on the daunting daunt tr.v. daunt·ed, daunt·ing, daunts To abate the courage of; discourage. "It's a really classic tragedy of a family destroying itself." "Barbara has a history of depression and several suicide attempts," she says. "Her father committed suicide, her brother committed suicide and she was probably manic-depressive. Tony was a diagnosed schizophrenic, so clearly there was a tremendous amount of mental illness in the family, as well as drug use and excessive wealth - you name it!" This is presented as a tragedy." In person, Julianne is far removed from the troubled souls she plays on screen. Married for the past five years to 38-year-old writer-director Bart Freundlich - whom she met on 1997's The Myth Of Fingerprints - they have two children, Caleb, 10, and Liv, six. "I have a very, very normal life," Moore smiles. "I really do - with the exception of being very lucky and privileged. I have two children, a dog and a husband. We live in New York, the kids go to school and we're fortunate that we have flexible schedules. I like that. That's what I want." Last year, Julianne published her first children's book, Freckleface Strawberry, with another planned for next year. Part of this desire for a stable domestic life stems from her own childhood. Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina Fayetteville is a city located in Cumberland County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 121,015. It is the county seat of Cumberland County GR6, and is best known as the home of Fort Bragg, a U.S. , she grew up in such far-flung places as Alaska, Paris and Panama. Her Vietnam vet father, Peter, was a military judge, a role that forced his family to move some 23 times. "It makes you more adaptable," she says. "When you are not from anywhere, you are always trying to fit in." As it happens, Moore has Scottish roots. Her mother Anne, a psychiatric social worker, originates from Greenock. "I grew up with a mother who would tell us all the time that we weren't American," she recalls. "And she didn't get her US citizenship until I was seven. She's totally Scottish." Julianne studied drama at the School Of The Performing Arts at Boston University, before moving on to TV, theatre and film work. Her next project will be Blindness, directed by Brazilian Fernando Meirelles, who made City of God. In it, she plays the wife of a doctor (Mark Ruffalo) in a city where almost every inhabitant INHABITANT. A mere intention to remove to a place will not make a man an inhabitant of such place, although as a sign of such intention he loses their sight. It's yet another bleak tale featuring murder, rape and other sexual deviancies. This may be just another day at the office for Moore, but the actress wants to leave a legacy of classy movies for her kids to see one day. "When they grow up and they see my movies, they'll know I did something I cared about," she says. Savage Grace is released today. Mental illness, drug use and excessive wealth.
