It's an injury she'll likely put up with the rest of the year, the only question being how much pain she'll have to endure and how much the sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Barshaw has company. Fellow outside hitter Lizzi Orona also is trying to stifle the pain of an injury, the only difference being Orona's problem is a strained rotator cuff rotator cuff n. I'm glad I was still able to play some sort of role, but it's still not the same.'' Neither are the Lancers lanc·er n. 1. A cavalryman armed with a lance. 2. Barshaw and Orona are key offensive weapons, but both were reduced to defensive roles. It wasn't until Thursday that they returned to their normal positions, but they both understand they'll be limited as they continue to heal. ``It's just something you have to deal with,'' Orona said. ``Hopefully I'll continue to get better.'' Grace Brethren is second in the Southern Section Div. V-AA rankings and should easily cruise through Alpha League play assuming Orona and Barshaw return to form. Their impact on the team was illustrated last week in a league loss to Paraclete of Lancaster in four games. The teams meet again Oct. 28. ``Hopefully the results will be different,'' Orona said. No matter what happens in that match, Grace Brethren will have its eye on winning the Div. V-AA championship, a title that escaped the Lancers' grasp last year when they fell in the semifinals. ``That goal doesn't change at all,'' Grace Brethren coach Ryan Gordon said. ``We've been a little up and down, but we've played a tough schedule and we've been banged up a little bit, but we still feel confident we can reach all our goals.'' Grace Brethren lost to Moorpark and Hart of Newhall recently, matches against bigger schools designed to prepare the Lancers for the postseason. ``If we're completely healthy we can compete with those bigger teams,'' Gordon said. ``But it's much tougher when we're playing without all our guns. Still, we played pretty well, so we definitely take something from those matches.'' Vincent Bonsignore, (818) 713-3612 vincent.bonsignore(at)dailynews.com |
