Grace Brethren compiled a 3-4 free-lance record last season, a significant improvement from 1995's 0-8 mark.

Beauchamp, a sophomore who made All-Southern Section in baseball as a freshman, is an accurate passer and dangerous runner.

``Jackson is a real athlete,'' Stephenson said. ``I think he was such a good scrambler A device or software program that encrypts data for security purposes. See scramble.  last season because he had to be. He's fast.''

Stephenson is hoping for improvement in the offensive line. Junior Chris Brandt (6-foot-4, 270) worked out religiously during the offseason and improved his strength and agility.

``Chris really wants to play,'' Stephenson said. ``Last year he was kind of passive, but this year he's been weightlifting. He's coming around.''

Hard-working Ryan Klub (6-0, 200) and Frank Suarez (5-11, 180) are both returning linemen and figure to provide Beauchamp better protection.

Leading rusher Chris Moyer (5-8, 160) also returns. Moyer, a senior, has good speed and is a tough short-yardage back.

Linebacker David Stephenson David Stephenson is an English rugby league forward for Oldham, Hull Kingston Rovers, Rochdale Hornets, Sunderland Nissan and Great Britain.

He was educated at Arnold School, Blackpool, and has been capped for Great Britain ten times.

Klub and Suarez play defensive end.

The Heritage League includes L.A. Lutheran, Pilgrim, Viewpoint, and Landmark West, which travels to Grace Brethren for the season-opener Saturday, Sept. 13.

Stephenson said the enthusiasm is strong, but with just seven seniors on the 24-player roster, the Lancers probably will face more-experienced teams most of the time.

``In general, I think we'll make a good showing,'' Stephenson said. ``We do have a young team, but I think we're looking good.''
