This season, in the wake of Kackert's absence after leaving for the University of New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E). , Grace Brethren (6-2) stayed with Elmore to open its season against highly touted Oak Park. After seven turnovers and a painful 14-2 loss, a change was needed and Chupp was there.

Although he had not taken a snap the entire summer, Chupp knew the offense well enough and already had the trust of head coach Terry Gourley.

``He knows my expectation levels and can deal with it,'' Gourley said. ``I simply said, 'What do you want to do? I can put the freshmen there (Kevin Ramey).' He said he wanted to play quarterback.''

``I knew Kevin was mentally ready,'' Chupp said. ``But not physically strong yet. I felt confident.''

Wearing number 33, the 5-8, 178-pound Chupp prepared for his first start - against Oaks Christian, ranked No. 1 by the Daily News in small schools, and No. 4 overall.

The result was a 48-7 loss that could have been worse with an untested freshman.

Chupp shook it off and helped the Golden Knights win their next six games while outscoring opponents Fillmore, Village Christian, L.A. Baptist and Marshall 246-22.

Chupp has completed 38 of 67 passes for 668 yards and eight touchdowns with just two interception. Chupp also has carried the ball 68 times for 318 yards and three touchdowns, plus has pulled full-time cornerback cor·ner·back also corner back

``He's got tremendous instincts for the football,'' defensive coach Mark Hoefler said. ``I've coached a lot of corners and he's one of the best I've ever seen.''

Teammate Steve Gourley, who was the recipient of two Chupp touchdown passes against L.A. Baptist on Oct. 21, knows his teammate well.

``He's the most reliable person you'll ever meet,'' Steve Gourley said. ``He knows where to throw the ball and knows what he can do with his arm. You have to trust your quarterback, and you can trust him.''
