) said today that based upon the status of the recent settlement discussions in New Jersey concerning its proposed merger with FirstEnergy Corp., the administrative law judge administrative law judge n. a professional hearing officer who works for the government to preside over hearings and appeals involving governmental agencies. They are generally experienced in the particular subject matter of the agency involved or of several agencies.  hearing the case has asked the parties to continue discussions until July 9.

The company pointed out that the continuation of discussions will postpone the judge's recommended decision that was scheduled to be rendered June 29.
