Foundation and Nicholas Scott, Sr. announced today that the land on the Erie Bayfront previously owned by the GPU Foundation has been conveyed to an affiliate of Scott Enterprises of Erie, Pennsylvania for approximately $2.2 million dollars. The property is located adjacent to the East Canal Basin on Presque Isle Bay in the City of Erie, PA. It includes the land west of the Maritime Museum and the pier to the north of the Erie County Library. The original (and current flagship) restaurant was built in 1972 on the site of an abandoned gas station in downtown Sharon, and decorated with license plates and unused restaurant also on upper Peach Street. Additionally, and upon approval of the Erie Western Port Authority's proposal to the state of Pennsylvania to build an 80,000 to 100,000 square foot $26 million convention center on the Bayfront site, Scott Enterprises would develop hotels and restaurants to support the center. Plans are also under consideration to develop the northeastern portion of the property (the old grain elevator pier) into condominiums, apartments or office buildings. The total investment in these projects could exceed $45 to $50 million over the next three years through private and state investments.
