GPU Foundation Helps New Jersey Residents; Donates $50,000 to Red Cross Hurricane Campaign.


MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1999--

Hurricane Floyd was the sixth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane in the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season.
. The American Red Cross has launched a $25 million National Hurricane Relief drive and the New Jersey Chapters have set a goal of $1 million to support this effort. Hundreds of volunteers, tons of supplies and scores of emergency vehicles continue to arrive in New Jersey everyday. The effort is expected to last up to 8 weeks.

"The devastation experienced by many New Jersey families as a result of this hurricane compels us to get involved and help with recovery efforts," said Cynthia Stinger, vice chair of the GPU Foundation. "We are joining forces with other New Jersey companies and concerned citizens to pool our resources and provide the financial support they so desperately need."

Standard homeowners' insurance policies do not cover damages by floodwaters and the Red Cross estimates that flooding has damaged 7,000 homes in 8 counties. The hardest hit areas were Somerset Somerset, cities, United States
Somerset.

To help the victims of this disaster, individuals may send contributions to the American Red Cross Hurricane Floyd Relief Fund, 2 Gardner Road, Fairfield, New Jersey, 07004, or call the American Red Cross at (800) 435-7669.
