 Energy recently won two awards for promoting its business and economic development initiatives. The awards were presented by two different organizations.

GPU Energy's Business Development department's charge is to attract and recruit companies looking to expand or re-locate to the company's service territory.

GPU Energy's Business Development's current advertisement features a polar bear polar bear, large white bear, Ursus maritimus, formerly Thalarctos maritimus, of the coasts of arctic North America. Polar bears usually live on drifting pack ice, but sometimes wander long distances inland.  in the desert with the headline "Anyone can find a location...living with it is another matter." The ad illustrates the importance of finding the right site to fulfill ful·fill also ful·fil

) award competition. The ad was chosen from 650 entries and was displayed at the AEDC annual conference. The AEDC is an organization for businesses committed to economic development and is the largest and oldest economic development society.

The same advertisement was judged "best in class" in the annual Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA NEDA National Economic and Development Authority (Philippines)

) awards competition. The ad was chosen from more than 160 entries. NEDA was formed to promote economic and industrial development in the Northeastern region of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .
