At 2:00 p.m. today, GPU Energy crews had restored electric service to more than 120,000 of the nearly 200,000 customers who were affected by the storm. The majority of the restoration is expected to be completed on Sunday and Monday, with the exception being customers in areas that are inaccessible due to flooding or other isolated circumstances. More than 400 GPU Energy crews, as well as contractors, have been working on the restoration efforts. As crews complete restoration efforts, they are deployed to assist with other affected areas within the GPU Energy service area. GPU Energy customers in portions of Morris and Passaic Counties in New Jersey have been most affected by flooding. Yesterday, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the federal agency responsible for coordinating emergency planning, preparedness, risk reduction, response, and recovery. The agency works closely with state and local governments by funding emergency programs and providing technical (FEMA FEMA, n.pr See Federal Emergency Management Agency. ) announced that federal resources and funds were made available to support response efforts in New Jersey under an emergency declaration issued by President Clinton. GPU Energy has been working with state and local offices of emergency management in an effort to assist customers. GPU Energy has also provided dry ice and bottled water to customers who have experienced extended service interruptions in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
