GPU Energy Restoration Efforts Near Completion.


MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1997--More than 77,000 GPU GPU: see secret police.

 Energy customers have had their power restored as restoration efforts continue in the company's Metro Region, which includes Morris, Hunterdon, Warren, Sussex and portions of Somerset counties.

Winds in excess of 50 mph, as well as lightning and heavy rain, were reported with the storm that moved through New Jersey shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Friday and caused more than 78,000 GPU Energy customers to lose power. Damage to GPU Energy facilities included: downed power lines, damage to transmission lines, poles and transformers and tree damage locations.

During the restoration effort, approximately 270 crews from GPU Energy in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of

 Energy), Northeast Utilities Northeast Utilities (NU) is a publicly-traded, Fortune 500 energy company headquartered in Berlin, Connecticut, with several regulated subsidiaries offering retail electricity and natural gas service to more than 2 million customers in New England.  and contractor crews assisted in working around the clock to restore power to customers. All crews continue to remain in the New Jersey region to assist with the efforts.

At 11:00 a.m., 1,400 GPU Energy customers remain without power. It is expected that most customers will have service restored by the end of normal business hours BUSINESS HOURS. The time of the day during which business is transacted. In respect to the time of presentment and demand of bills and notes, business hours generally range through the whole day down to the hours of rest in the evening, except when the paper is payable it a bank or by a  today.

GPU Energy customers who are without power and have not yet reported it are urged to call the company's customer service center at 1-800-452-9155.
