GPU Energy Prepares for Hurricane.

 Energy is preparing for a hurricane that is expected to affect most of the company's service areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Key GPU Energy personnel are being advised by their supervisors to be prepared to work for an extended period beginning Thursday morning. Additionally, contractor crews were asked to remain in GPU Energy service areas to assist, if needed.

GPU Energy is offering the following emergency tips for customers in the event of electrical service Electrical service, in building wiring, refers to the wiring that connects the electric utility's cables in the street to the building. Specifically, electrical service is the wiring from the street, through the meter and up to the panelboard, but no farther.  interruptions:

- Electrical life support systems should have a backup power

supply;

- Drinking water drinking water

supply of water available to animals for drinking supplied via nipples, in troughs, dams, ponds and larger natural water sources; an insufficient supply leads to dehydration; it can be the source of infection, e.g. leptospirosis, salmonellosis, or of poisoning, e.g.
 should be available -- approximately a gallon per

person per day;

- Portable radios should be available for emergency updates;

- Batteries, candles and flashlights should be in a central

location;

- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
