Although no specific action is required at this time, GPU Energy is asking that customers use electricity prudently to help prevent possible power supply problems.

PJM and GPU Energy suggest the following hot weather tips to conserve electricity:
-- Set air conditioners at 80 degrees or higher if health permits, or use fans
in place of air conditioning.

-- Minimize opening and closing of refrigerator and freezer doors.

-- Limit the use of electrically heated water.

-- Turn off all non-essential appliances and as many lights as possible.

-- Postpone using major appliances such as electric ranges, washers and clothes
dryers until the cooler evening hours.

-- Close curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and retain cooler air inside
homes.

Following these tips to reduce the use of electricity will help avoid possible electric power shortages.
