Approximately 250 GPU Energy crews are working in Pennsylvania Pennsylvania (pĕnsəlvā`nyə), one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States. It is bordered by New Jersey, across the Delaware River (E), Delaware (SE), Maryland (S), West Virginia (SW), Ohio (W), and Lake Erie and New York and New Jersey. These crews are being assisted by an additional 215 support personnel who were identifying outage out·age n. 1. A quantity or portion of something lacking after delivery or storage. 2. A temporary suspension of operation, especially of electric power. and trouble locations. As of 8 p.m. tonight, approximately 30,000 GPU Energy customers were without electric service in Pennsylvania. In New Jersey, there were approximately 54,000 GPU Energy customers without service. Crews from the less affected parts of Pennsylvania have been sent to New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. The worst of the storm is expected to be over in Pennsylvania and New Jersey before midnight. Most customers are expected to be returned to service by late Friday. GPU Energy is offering the following emergency tips for customers in the event of electrical service Electrical service, in building wiring, refers to the wiring that connects the electric utility's cables in the street to the building. Specifically, electrical service is the wiring from the street, through the meter and up to the panelboard, but no farther. interruptions:
-- Electrical life support systems should have a backup power
supply;
-- Drinking water should be available -- approximately a gallon per
person per day;
-- Portable radios should be available for emergency updates;
-- Batteries, candles and flashlights should be in a central
location;
-- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.
-- In the event of extended service interruption, customers are
cautioned to avoid dangerous practices such as using charcoal
grills indoors.
