GPU Energy Continues Restoration Effort in Metro Region.MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1997--GPU Energy is continuing its restoration efforts in the wake of last night's severe weather in northern New Jersey. Approximately 40,500 customers in the company's Metro Region have had their power interrupted because of the storm. The hardest hit districts within the region are the company's Dover, Washington, Flemington, Bernardsville and Summit districts, which includes Morris, Hunterdon Warren, Sussex and portions of Somerset counties Somerset County is the name of four counties in the United States and one in England. Crews began to assess damage shortly after the storm moved through the area shortly after 6:00 last night. Winds in excess of 50 mph, as well as lightning and heavy rain were reported with the storm. At 9:30 this morning, the company reported more than 750 individual locations of trouble. Problems include downed power lines, downed transmission lines and damaged poles, damaged transformers and tree damage locations. In addition to crews from GPU GPU: see secret police.
