Hurricane Floyd was the sixth named storm, fourth hurricane, and third major hurricane in the 1999 Atlantic hurricane season. that is expected to affect most of the company's service area in Pennsylvania and New Jersey tonight and early tomorrow. The storm is expected to produce heavy winds and rain. GPU Energy is moving additional personnel to areas expected to be hardest hit. Crews are traveling from western Pennsylvania Western Pennsylvania consists of the western third of the state of Pennsylvania in the United States. Pittsburgh is the largest city in the region, with a metropolitan area of about 2.4 million people, and is the cultural center for Western Pennsylvania. to command centers in New Jersey. The centers will be headquarters for directing repair crews who are supplementing local crews. Support staff -including mechanics, engineers and administrators also will be at the command centers. GPU Energy is offering the following emergency tips for customers in the event of electrical service Electrical service, in building wiring, refers to the wiring that connects the electric utility's cables in the street to the building.
