GPU Energy's January Bills Will Reflect End of Rate Reduction.

The temporary reduction meant average savings of 2.5 percent for GPU Energy's Metropolitan Edison Edison, township (1990 pop. 88,680), Middlesex co., NE N.J., inc. 1870 as Raritan Township, renamed 1954. Edison's varied manufactures include light trucks, chemicals, metal products, electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, and instruments.  customers and average savings of 3 percent for GPU Energy's Pennsylvania Electric customers.

On January 1, higher rates will be effective for customers of both companies. The new rates are at the same level they were in December 1998, before the temporary reduction began.

The rate reduction was part of the 1998 restructuring restructuring - The transformation from one representation form to another at the same relative abstraction level, while preserving the subject system's external behaviour (functionality and semantics).  settlements for GPU Energy that introduced customer choice in electricity in the company's service territory.

The rate change, which affects all customers, is reflected in the distribution charges shown on GPU Energy bills. Bills sent to customers in January will be prorated to reflect electric usage at the different rates.

For a Met-Ed residential customer (Rate RS) using 500 kilowatt-hours a month, the end of the temporary reduction will mean a monthly increase in charges of $1.14. For a Penelec residential customer (Rate RS) with the same usage, the monthly increase will be $1.34.
