: GPU) Board of Directors today increased the regular quarterly common stock dividend by 1.5 cents, or 2.9 percent, to 53 cents a share. The increased dividend is payable May 26, 1999 to shareholders of record as of April 30, 1999.

"We are pleased to be in a position to increase our dividend," said Fred D. Hafer, GPU chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Today's action is a continuation of our strategy of maximizing shareholder value while we respond to ongoing changes in our industry."
