Don Buckley, president of GP Batteries USA, the Enhanced Performance Series offers several major improvements to the original GP Green Charge NiMH cells, which were first introduced by GP Batteries in 1991 as a high-capacity, environmentally conscious alternative to nickel cadmium (NiCd) A rechargeable battery technology that is widely used for portable hand tools. It uses a nickel and cadmium plate and potassium hydroxide as the electrolyte. Originally invented in Sweden in 1899, it became popular in the 1950s after a sealed version was developed.  cylindrical cells.

The Enhanced Performance Series offers improved charge and open-circuit voltage Open-circuit voltage or OCV is the difference of electrical potential between two terminals of a device when there is no external load connected, i.e. the circuit is broken or open.  (OCV OCV Open Circuit Voltage

) retention; specified capacity after long-term aging in a discharged state; consistent temperature characteristics during charging -- even after extended periods of rest; and higher reliability.

The company is offering to provide capacity-matched unit cells for customers' power-pack applications as part of the launch of the new series. "Capacity-matched cells will give improved performances over the long term, and the packs will have longer cycle life," Buckley said.

"In addition, capacity-matched cells in a battery pack will result in better and more positive control when using quick-charge termination methods involving voltage and temperature measurements."

Other applications that will benefit from the Enhanced Performance Series include cellular, laptop, data capture and other portable products that require longer life. GP Green Charge NiMH cells are available in AA and AF diameters, with capacity ranges of 600-1300 mAh for AA, and 900-2700 mAh for AF.
