GOULD FOIL RECEIVES ISO CERTIFICATION

EASTLAKE, Ohio, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Gould Inc. today announced that all of its Foil Division manufacturing facilities worldwide have received ISO 9002 certification. Facilities recently certified include plants at McConnelsville, Ohio, and Chandler, Ariz., joining the company's copper foil manufacturing plant in Eichstetten, Germany, which received ISO certification in 1991. The new certifications follow an audit of quality systems at the two facilities by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI), based in Jamestown, N.Y.
"Gould is the first electrodeposited copper foil producer in the U.S. to be ISO certified, and the only producer to receive ISO 9002 certification for all of its worldwide foil facilities," said C. David Ferguson, Gould president and chief executive officer. "The certification provides significant benefits to our customers, including the assurance that Gould foil is produced through an internationally recognized quality assurance process and greater ease in obtaining their own ISO 9002 certification," he said.
The ISO 9000 series quality standard was developed by the international Organization for Standardization in Geneva, and is now embraced by more than 50 countries.
"The certification is a major milestone in Gould's continuous quality improvement effort," said William Orth, vice president of quality assurance for Gould's Foil Division. "Our quality circles, launched in the early 1980s, have now evolved into 35 employee involvement teams in our three foil plants. Gould Foil began statistical process control training in 1987, an effort that is continuing. With ISO certification as a foundation, the continuous quality improvement strategy also encompasses customer satisfaction measurement, training, quality awareness and benchmarking," he said.
"Only 600 U.S. companies have any of their facilities ISO certified, and Gould Foil is clearly a leader in having the facilities that produce our entire product line operating under the quality standard," said Orth.
Headquartered in Eastlake, Ohio, Gould Inc. develops, manufactures and markets materials, components and instrumentation through its Foil, Circuit Protection, Fiber Optics and Test and Measurement divisions. Gould employs 3,000 people in 17 facilities worldwide.
