THE oldest woman in Britain, Annie Knight Annie Knight (June 6, 1895 – November 27, 2006) was, at age 111, believed to be the U.K.'s oldest person following the July 26, 2006 passing of Emmeline Brice, who was also 111. , has died aged 111 in Aberdeen with her wee nipper nipper a tool for clipping, e.g. for claws and beaks of small cagebirds. hoof nipper a pincer-like tool with the blades curved in to face each other at the ends which are composed of two chisel edges opposing one another. of a son, Bill, 86, saying his mother's life had been "terrific". But had it Bill? The later years, I mean. I ask as someone who met the then oldest woman on earth, 121- year-old Jeanne Calment, a decade ago. Jeanne was virtually blind and deaf - and totally miserable. Her only pleasure was chocolate, which was used to coax her to talk to the media. When she smelt it, she'd break wind with excitement and whisper a soundbite bringing publicity to her French nursing home. The one she imparted to me was that she hadn't had sex since 1940. Then she fell asleep and we had to wait until she came round again before we could offer another chocolate, hear her rasp with delight, and ask another question. What annoyed her most about life? "That God makes me wait," she wheezed, before nodding off again, hoping he'd take her. Life terrific after 100? Only if you fancy turning into a cabbage who breaks wind at the thought of announcing you haven't had it for 56 years. All so you'll get a chocolate button. Me? I'll take hell. |
