HOT COALS FAST: Charcoal grilling just got more convenient and faster. The Kingsford Products Co.'s charcoal briquettes with Sure Fire Grooves are ready 15 minutes after lighting (they catch the flame more quickly, too) -- almost 25 percent faster than normal briquettes. They offer a longer burn time because they use less energy in the lighting stage and minimize the time it takes to reach the cooking temperature as well. They will replace existing briquettes across the Kingsford product line, from the original blue bag to the all-in-one Matchlight Charcoal. Look for the new briquettes in 4.5-pound and 9-pound to 19- and 21.6-pound bags with retail prices ranging from $2.99 to $13.99.

SOCIAL SCOOP: Want to enter the Dreyer's Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute, a program that rewards 1,500 neighborhoods across the country with an old-fashioned ice cream social? It's down to the wire. All entries -- a paragraph of 350 words or less explaining why your neighborhood deserves a party -- must be received by Friday. For rules and entry forms, go to www.icecream.com. Winners will receive a party in a box with napkins, scoops, cups, bowls and 12 cartons of various flavors of Slow Churned ice cream for a gathering of up to 100 neighbors.
