GOOD TASTES.

FROZEN ZONE: Cedarlane Natural Foods Inc. in Carson recently launched a line of 12 frozen Zone products with Dr. Barry Sears, creator of the Zone Diet, based on the concept of balancing low fat, high protein and moderate carbohydrates. The products are all natural and contain no trans fats. Each product, one serving, ranges from 300 to 380 calories, 700 to 910 milligrams of sodium and 11 to 14 grams of fat. Among the products are Enchilada Pie, Bean & Cheese Burrito, Enchiladas, Eggplant Parmesan Eggplant parmesan or melanzane alla parmigiana is a common Italian dish which originated in Naples. It typically includes sliced eggplant, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and parmesan cheese, layered repeatedly, which are then baked. , Vegetable Lasagna, cheese and other flavor omelets, and a variety of cheese and vegetable pizzas. We liked the first five items the best -- and found them convenient and well-seasoned. We'd pass on the pizzas, with their whole-wheat crusts, as they just didn't cut it flavorwise. By the way, you won't find standard tortillas in any of the enchilada or burrito-style creations -- the thin facsimiles are reminiscent of very thin won-ton skins, but a company spokesman noted they are made with pea protein using a proprietary process. While the products are positioned for those following the Zone Diet program, anyone who is watching their weight, calories, fat, etc., and wants a healthy frozen meal in a hurry could benefit. Prices range from $2.49 (for a single burrito) to $4.99 each. Look for them at Ralphs.

The line will be expanded and include six new additions at the end of the month -- among them Chicken Lasagna, Lemon Shrimp Pasta, Ravioli and Chicken Burrito.
